Travelling to Bali? Here’s your 2-week Bali Itinerary! (Thank me later) Last Updated: September 19, 2022

Bali is one destination that took me by surprise in all ways!

Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud, Bali
Tegenungan Waterfall, Ubud

I visited Bali without having many expectations. Normally before visiting any place, I do a lot of research on things to do, places to visit, vegetarian foods to eat etc. For this particular trip, I did something similar too.

Planning a trip is something I thoroughly enjoy.

When I say the plan, I don’t mean making pre-bookings for everything. A lot of it is simply knowing the place before going there.

It is always good to get an understanding of the basics before visiting any destination – culture, currency, places worth visiting, local things to eat and so on and so forth.

My first half of the trip was planned to the T.

This means that I had decided which places I was visiting and on what date. I had also booked my stay in all the places. But the second half of the trip was kind of spontaneous.

I wanted to keep the latter half of the trip open because I had a few places in mind to visit but wasn’t sure if I wanted to do everything.

So I spent the first half asking the locals and other travellers for recommendations. The flexibility towards the second half also allowed me to revisit one of the places in Bali that truly touched my heart – UBUD!

In total, I explored Bali for 16 days and was very satisfied with it. Of course, there is always that nagging feeling of staying for longer or coming back soon. Considering how amazing Bali is, I am sure to come back at some point in my life.

If you are travelling to Bali anytime soon or if Bali is on your future Bucket List – save this article now!

Here’s my 2-week itinerary that I recommend for all kinds of travellers*:

2 Night / 3 Days : Uluwatu

3 Nights / 4 Days: Nusa Lembongan

2 Nights / 3 Days : Seminyak

2 Nights / 3 Days : Canggu

1 Night / 2 Days : Kintamani

3 Nights / 4 Days : Ubud

*Please note, that this is a general itinerary. If you need a curated plan for your trip, feel free to email me your requirements at theveggietravels@gmail.com

Day 1: Uluwatu

Looking for something secluded in Bali? Uluwatu is the place to be.

I am the kind who likes less crowd so I decided to spend my first night in Uluwatu.

It is in the South of Bali, about 45  to 60 minutes away from the Ngurah Rai International Airport (the only airport in Bali).

Known for its beaches, coffee plantations, Uluwatu Temple and the Kecak Dance Performance at Sunset. It is also an ideal surf destination in Bali.

Spend the first day exploring some of the mesmerizing beaches of Uluwatu – Dreamland Beach, Nyang Nyang Beach, Suluban Beach and Bingin Beach to name a few.

In the evening, head to Uluwatu Bar to catch the sunset.

End the day with a romantic/intimate dinner with your partner or loved ones at one of the restaurants below (depending on your budget):

Ulu Cliffhouse

Warung Bejana

360 Restaurant

Dugong (great for vegan and vegetarians)

Uluwatu Temple, Bali
Uluwatu Temple, Uluwatu
Day 2: Uluwatu

Start your day by visiting the Balangan Viewpoint. This place usually gets crowded at sunset which is why I recommend doing this first thing in the morning. The views are great in the morning and you will find fewer crowds.

Make your way to one or two beaches mentioned earlier that you may have missed on your first day.

Have lunch at one of the local “Warungs” (local eateries in Bali serving delicious Indonesian food) and then head to Karang Boma Cliff (Uluwatu Cliff).

This cliff is located close to the Uluwatu Temple so you can head straight there after soaking in the views from the cliff. The temple itself is situated on the cliff and offers great views too.

The popular Kecak Fire Dance takes place at the temple every day at 6 PM. It is a traditional dance performance with local artists who depict a story from Hindu Mythology.

Bali is very big on Hindusim and you can catch a glimpse of this religion through this performance.

Make sure to get your tickets for this show by 5 PM as it is likely to get sold out sooner than you expect.

It is a one-hour performance and the tickets cost IDR 150,000 (approx. 10 USD).

Please note: the ticket prices are subject to change.

Post the performance you can dine at Rock Bar and enjoy the coastal views from there OR you can dine at one of the above-mentioned restaurants and then head to Single Fin’s Beach Club to party the night away.

Day 3: Nusa Lembongan

Bid adieu to Uluwatu and head to Sanur port to catch a fast boat to Nusa Lembongan.

On your way, make sure to stop over at Padang Padang Beach for a quick dip. This is one of the most popular beaches close to Uluwatu. It gained its popularity majorly after the movie ‘Eat. Pray. Love’ was shot here. It is a very beautiful beach either way so I highly recommend you make a quick stop.

Bali coffee is quite well known around the world.

But do you know about Luwak Coffee?

It is one of the most expensive types of coffee in the world. This unique coffee is made from the seeds of berries eaten by the animal, Luwak (cat-like creature). It is also known as the Luwak Poop Coffee simply because the seeds of the berries are pooped out by the Luwak and then blended with coffee beans.

I don’t consider this coffee to be ethically made since the animals are caged and fed to produce this type of coffee. Sadly, I realised this after trying out the coffee. To me, it tasted like just another coffee but only true coffee lovers would probably understand the taste better.

Luwak Coffee is easily available everywhere in Bali but I would recommend you to check out a coffee plantation where they explain a lot about coffee and how it is made. You purchase one cup of Luwak Coffee here and get a free tasting of 15 types of teas and coffees. Some of them also offer a free tasting of Balinese chocolates.

You can book your coffee plantation tour here. Or simply ask your local driver or hotel to help you out with this.

Head to Sanur Port after this and catch a 45-minute fast boat to Nusa Lembongan.

The Nusa Islands comprise of Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Lembongan.

Out of the three, Nusa Penida is the most popular one but I chose to stay in Lembongan and do a day trip to Nusa Penida instead. Here’s why:

  • Lembongan is more local and less touristy
  • It is also much smaller than Penida
  • It is the closest island to Bali and easily accessible from the other 2 Nusa Islands too
  • If you decide to visit Gilli Islands, then there is a direct ferry from Lembongan. I wanted to keep this option open for myself

Take an afternoon boat from Sanur (around 12.30 PM – 1 PM). You can buy your ferry tickets here.

Please note: This is a Fast Boat and is VERY bumpy. If you have sea sickness or motion sickness, I highly suggest you be well prepared before getting on this boat

Once you reach Nusa Lembongan, check in to your hotel and head out to one of the beach clubs in Lembongan.

Ohana’s Beach Club is my favourite. You can spend the rest of the day there till evening. It is by the beach. Grab lunch, take a dip in the water and have a drink or two while chasing the sunset on the beach.

You can spend the rest of the night at Ohana’s or head to another beach club in the vicinity for dinner and drinks. Ginger & Jamu and Indiana Kenanga Restaurant are good options.

Day 4:  Nusa Lembongan (Day Trip to Nusa Penida)

Today you can do a day trip to Nusa Penida!

In my opinion, Nusa Penida is slightly hyped because of mass tourism. Lembongan was a lot more laid back and secluded.

That being said, I saw some amazing places in Nusa Penida on my day trip. I went through this travel operator specializing in Nusa Penida Tour. Feel free to reach out to them directly on Instagram and give my reference 🙂 They arrange for your transportation from Nusa Lembongan and back too!

There are tons of places to see in Nusa Penida like Diamond Beach, Atuh Beach, Thousand Islands Viewpoint, Rumah Pohon Treehouse, KelingKing Beach, Tembeling Forest and Tembeling Beach.

It is a 15-minute ferry ride between Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida. The last ferry back to Lembongan leaves at 5 PM so make sure to finish your sightseeing in Penida before that!

Once you are back to Nusa Lembongan, you can head to Devil’s Tears. This place by far has one of the best sunsets in and around Bali. You cannot miss out on this one!

After witnessing the magical sunset with strong waves hitting the rocks at Devil’s Tears, you can head to Sandy Beach Club for dinner and drinks.

Day 5: Nusa Lembongan

Let’s get adventurous today! The Nusa Islands offer some amazing sites for diving and snorkelling. You also have an option to go surfing!

One of the best things to do in the Nusa Islands is to dive with Manta Rays. If you are not up for diving, you can also snorkel at the Manta Bay in Nusa Penida.

I booked a 2-hour snorkel trip with my hotel itself. The weather wasn’t favourable to spot Manta Rays on that day BUT we got to see dolphins instead! This is a not-so-common sight so I believe I got lucky. We covered three snorkel points including mangroves.

Here are some snorkelling and diving trips that you can book through Klook as well:

Nusa Lembongan and Manta Bay Snorkelling Experience

Nusa Lembongan Snorkelling & Mangrove Day Tour

Four Spots Snorkelling Experience in Nusa Lembongan

Diving in Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida for Beginners

Nusa Penida Diving

Rest it out for a few hours after you are done with your water activities (this will easily take the first half of your day).
Head to another Beach Club to spend the rest of the evening. I recommend Mangrove Beach Club.

Day 6: Seminyak

It is time to say bye to the good old island life and head back to Bali.

Take the morning fast boat to Sanur Port from Nusa Lembongan at around 11 AM.

You will be back in Bali around 12 PM.

Catch a cab from Sanur to Seminyak. It is a 30 to 40-minute drive, not too far.

Seminyak / Kuta area of Bali is known for its villas so try staying in one for the experience, especially if you are with a partner, family or group of friends.

Most of the villas offer spa and floating breakfast options too.

Check in to your hotel/villa and head out for lunch. There are tons of cafes and restaurants in this area. It is also big on nightlife.

Some restaurants worth checking out are:

Motel Mexicola

Rustica Cucina Italiana

Manhattan Slice Bali

Este Leisure Bali

La Lucciola

Ultimo

Made’s Warung

Post lunch, rest it out in your hotel/villa for a couple of hours before heading out in the evening.

At around 5 PM, head to the Potato Head Beach Club. This is a famous beach club in Bali and must not be missed. It is located by Seminyak Beach and offers great sunset views.

You can spend the rest of the evening at this Beach Club.

At night, it is time to enjoy the nightlife of Bali at its best!!

Two clubs I highly recommend – La Favela and Mexicola.

Day 7: Seminyak

Today you can explore Kuta Beach and/or choose to spend the day at Waterbom Bali. This is a fairly new waterpark that has opened up in Kuta.

They have some really cool rides and a Lazy River. This was on my Bali Bucket List but unfortunately, I fell sick during my time in Kuta so I had to skip it.

Kuta is the party hub of Bali. Some of the popular party places in Kuta that you can check out are Skygarden, Espresso Bar, Bounty Discotheque, ENVY, Hard Rock Cafe and Club Havana.

Let loose at these clubs in Kuta before calling it a night!

Day 8: Canggu

Depending on how long your night turns out to be, you may wake up whenever you are ready, to begin, your day.

By afternoon you can leave for Canggu. It is a 45-minute drive. You can cab it up or if you have rented a car for your trip, you may continue in the same car to get to Canggu.

This part of Bali is famous amongst digital nomads. There are tons of cafes, restaurants and beach clubs here as well but the overall vibe of the place is quite different from Kuta and Seminyak.

It is a mix of Kuta and Ubud for me as it has rice terrace fields along with beaches and cafes. There are some really good local flea markets too!

Today you can check out the beaches of Canggu which are quite different from the ones you have seen so far. Some beaches to check out are Nelayan Beach and Canggu Beach.

In the evening, you can head to Old Man’s and Sand Bar to experience the nightlife in Canggu style!

Recommended cafes and restaurants:

Falafel Temple

Pels Super Shop

Nude

The Avocado Factory

ZIN Cafe

Made’s Banana Flour Co.

Bokashi

Vegan Cafe, Canggu, Bali
Vegan Cafe, Canggu
Day 9: Canggu

Today you can visit one of the local shopping markets that Canggu is known for!

Love Anchor is one of them. I visited this one and absolutely loved it. It is an ethical boutique market located 1 km from Canggu beach. It has a bohemian vibe to it and offers clothing, jewellery and other Balinese items from homegrown sellers.

This market is open on all days from 8 am to 10 pm.

Other markets to check out in Canggu:

Samadi Market

Old Mans Canggu Market

Bali Niki Natural Art Market

La Brisa Sunday Market

After some shopping therapy, you can treat yourself to a nice meal at any of the above-mentioned cafes/restaurants.

Spend your afternoon relaxing in your hotel/villa pool or sunbathing at Canggu Beach.

5 PM onwards, head to Finn’s Beach Club for a nice sundowner. You can see a great sunset from this place. Grab a drink and get in the pool to enjoy the sunset and some nice music.

It is the perfect place to let your hair down and enjoy Bali party life.

Day 10: Kintamani

Try having an early start today if you can, which means try not partying till very late the night before 😛

I say this because today you have a long travel day to Kintamani. It is approximately a 2-hour drive from Canggu.

Kintamani is a village where one of the active volcanoes of Bali is situated – Mt. Batur.

While most travellers participate in the popular Mt. Batur sunrise trek, very few think of spending a night in the Kintamani village – a place which is very underrated in my opinion.

There are several glamping (luxury camping) options in Kintamani and the views from these properties are out of the world!

I have included one night in Kintamani instead of just doing the sunrise trek because trust me, you will love it.

Besides, Kintamani Coffee is also quite well known and there are some cafes in the area offering high-quality food, coffee and magical views of Mt. Batur.

Check in to your hotel/glamping property before heading out for lunch in Kintamani.

Cafes / Restaurants to check out in Kintamani:

AKASA Kintamani Coffee

Eco Bike Coffee

Montana Del Cafe

Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant

I also want to mention that this area of Bali is very different from what you will see otherwise. It is the mountain area of Bali without any beaches, party places or markets.

The highlight of Kintamani is Mt. Batur. That is what people come here for.

After lunch, head back to your hotel and spend a relaxing day since you will need an early morning wake-up call for the sunrise trek of Mt. Batur the next day.

Pick a property with a pool preferably so you can enjoy your afternoon relaxing in the pool. Please note, that it is slightly chilly in Kintamani since it is a hill station of sorts. It is good to carry a light shawl or a jacket with you.

Make sure to sleep well before your overnight trek!

Day 11: Ubud ( + Mt. Batur Sunrise Trek)

If you are in Bali, it is a must to do the Mt. Batur Sunrise Trek. You can either book this through your hotel or through Klook.

Just in case you are not kicked about climbing up an active volcano, you can choose to do a Jeep Tour of Mt. Batur.

Keep in mind that you will get the best sunrise views of Mt. Batur from the top of the volcano. The Jeep takes you only to a certain point which is further away from the summit.

You will be getting a wake-up call at 2 AM. It is mandatory to get a tour guide for this trek.

This is a commercial trek so don’t be surprised if you find too many tourists there.

You will be taken in a jeep to a meeting point from where you will be starting the trek at 3:30 AM.

It is a 2-hour trek to get to the summit. You will get to see the most magical sunrise from the summit at around 6:00 AM.

The tour includes 2 breakfasts – one before the trek and one at the summit.

You should be back at the hotel by 10 AM or 11 AM latest.

If you are exhausted you may request your hotel for late checkout or you may proceed toward Ubud.

It is an hour’s drive from Kintamani.

Ubud is my FAVOURITE place in Bali. There are tons of things to do in Ubud, right from the rice terrace fields to temples to cafes to Balinese massage to local markets.

Check into your hotel/resort/villa in Ubud and rest for a couple of hours before heading out.

After an overnight trek, you deserve to be treated to an authentic Balinese massage today.

If you have a slightly higher budget, then my best recommendation is to try out Kaveri Spa. They usually have some crazy promotional offers on their website up to 50% off. Do keep an eye out for that!

In addition to the Balinese massage, you can also ask for the Flower Bath Experience.

This is popularly available in Bali only and is worth experiencing at least once. I have made a detailed YouTub video on this experience, in case you want to check it out.

After a relaxing time at the spa, you can head to the Ubud Market area for dinner. If you have missed the Kecak Dance performance in Uluwatu, fret not! You can catch it in Ubud. It starts at 7:00 PM every day in a few different temples in Ubud.

Make sure to check the timetable in advance as some venues showcase this performance only on selected days.

Post dinner, you can head to a club to enjoy the nightlife in Ubud. Two places I would recommend are CP Lounge and No Mas.

Restaurants and Cafes to check out in Ubud:

Milk & Madu

Tis Cafe

Seniman Coffee

Zest Ubud

Wulan Warung

Ramen Dining Kazumi

Aarya Warung

Mt. Batur, Bali
Mt. Batur Sunrise Trek, Kintamani
Day 12: Ubud

Start your day by exploring the Campuhan Ridge Walk post breakfast. It is better to go in the morning since there are fewer travellers.

It is a short walk amidst rice terrace fields and waterfalls. There are also some cute cafes and eateries along the path where you can grab a drink or two.

Spent the first few hours of your day there and then head to  Zest Cafe for lunch. This is a vegan cafe offering some great food options. Do check them out!

Post lunch, you can move to Cretya Ubud. This is a day club with tons of features – like the famous Bali Swing, Plunge Pools, Bar, Rice Terrace Fields etc. You can literally spend the entire day there.

I would recommend you stay there till sunset before heading to dinner. You can choose to party the night away or enjoy some live music at Laughing Buddha Bar or Bar Luna.

If you are looking for a quick tour of Ubud, then you can check out this link.

Day 13: Ubud

It is your last full day in Bali today!

There is one BIG thing to be checked off from your Bali bucket list yet which is a waterfall. Besides the beaches and coffee, Bali is also well known for its waterfalls.

There are several in and around Ubud.

I recommend you to check out at least one of them depending on how far you are willing to travel as some of them are at an hour’s distance or more: Tegenungan Waterfall, Leke Leke Waterfall, Tukad Cepung Waterfall or Sumampan Waterfall.

Start your day by visiting one or more of the above-mentioned waterfalls, have lunch at one of the recommended cafes/restaurants and then spend your afternoon shopping and exploring the Ubud Market. Also, check out the Ubud Art Market which is a part of it.

In the evening, you can head to the Tis Cafe which offers scenic views of Tegallalang Rice Terrace Fields or you can opt for a Balinese Cooking Class.

Stroll through the Ubud Market at night also because it is a different experience.

Spend your last night partying in Ubud if you like!

Rice Terrace Field Cafe, Ubud, Bali

Day 14: Bye Bali!

Make sure to leave for the airport at least 4 hours before your flight time since it takes at least one hour to reach the airport from Ubud.

If you have a late flight, then you can choose to do some last-minute shopping in Ubud on this day.

This marks the end of your trip!!
