Top 10 Things To Do In Dublin Last Updated: December 21, 2024

Are you heading to Dublin and wondering what to do? I’ve got you covered! When I visited this lively city, I was blown away by how much there is to see and do. Here’s a list of my top recommendations, perfect for anyone planning their first trip or looking for inspiration.

1. Guinness Storehouse

When I think of Dublin, the Guinness Storehouse instantly comes to mind. Located at St James’s Gate, this seven-floor experience takes you through the history, making, and magic of Ireland’s most iconic beer. The Gravity Bar at the top, where you can sip a pint while soaking up stunning city views. Get a STOUTie, a pint with your face printed, or learn to pour the perfect Guinness at the academy. Buy your entry ticket here.

2. Trinity College And The Book Of Kells

Step into history at Trinity College, Ireland’s oldest university, and see the incredible Book of Kells. This 9th-century manuscript is breathtaking, but the Long Room of the Old Library steals the show. With its towering shelves and historic vibe, it’s like stepping into a Harry Potter scene. Don’t miss the guided tour, it’s packed with fascinating stories about the college and the manuscript.

3. Dublin Castle

Once the seat of British power, it now houses state events and offers guided tours through its richly decorated apartments and the historic remains of the 13th-century structure. The art, architecture, and underground moat are highlights. The state apartments are stunning, and I loved hearing the stories about its history on a guided tour. You can also see parts of the medieval castle, which was a pleasant surprise. If you’re into history and architecture, you’ll enjoy it here.

4. St. Patrick’s Cathedral

Ireland’s largest cathedral, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, is a must-see. It’s a peaceful spot filled with beautiful stained glass, historic statues, and a rich connection to Irish culture. Whether religious or not, the architecture and serene atmosphere will leave you in awe. Entry is free, but donations are welcome.

With its cobblestone streets, vibrant pubs, and live music spilling out onto the streets, this area is perfect for soaking in the city’s lively atmosphere. Stop by The Temple Bar Pub for a pint, explore quirky shops, and enjoy the street performances. Visit early in the evening to avoid the biggest crowds.

7. Grafton Street And St. Stephen’s Green

Grafton Street is one of Dublin’s top shopping spots, but it’s also full of street performers and energy. Just a short walk away is St. Stephen’s Green, a gorgeous park where you can relax by the ponds, admire the flowers or enjoy a picnic. It’s a great way to blend shopping with a bit of nature.

8. Jameson Distillery Bow St.

9. National Museum Of Ireland – Archaeology

I love museums, and this one didn’t disappoint, especially since it’s free! This museum is packed with treasures from Ireland’s past, from prehistoric gold to Viking artefacts. The bog bodies, preserved human remains from ancient times are particularly fascinating. It’s a perfect spot to learn about Irish history without spending a penny.

If you have time to leave the city, Howth is an absolute gem. You can also eat fresh seafood by the harbour. The views and vibes are breathtaking, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot seals!
